When we talk about sustainability, actions that want to fight climate change or improve the environment in general come to mind. But they are only part of sustainability.

One definition of sustainability is looking for ways to meet the needs of the present without compromising those of future generations, ensuring a balance between economic growth, the environment and social well-being. This updated concept was used for the first time in the Brundtland Report, published in 1987 by the United Nations, in which it warned about the negative environmental consequences that economic development and globalization, industrialization and population growth were having .

The concept of sustainable development or sustainability includes three dimensions: the environmental, which aims to preserve the environment without renouncing economic and social progress and to promote an ecological responsibility that takes care of the environment in which you live while growing human development; the economic, which seeks the profitability of activities that are environmentally and socially sustainable, generating wealth in an equitable manner, and the social, with the challenge of finding the cohesion and stability of the population through maintaining adequate and satisfactory levels of education, well-being, participation and awareness. Some authors also add political sustainability, that which aspires to a clear, stable and secure governance that establishes a legal framework that guarantees respect for people in balance with the preservation of the environment and the promotion of a responsible and supportive economy

Currently, all parties, individuals, companies and public administration, are more clear that the development must be sustainable or it will not be and we are working in this direction. Now the next step will be how to measure the actions that are being put into practice and know if they are effective.
